About The Museum: No trip to Sharjah is complete without exploring the Emirate's East Coast. Sandy beaches, scenic mountains, lush mangroves and heritage sites await you. In the traditional fishing village of Kalba, you will find a charismatic old fort and the prominent beachside residence of H.E. Sheikh Saeed bin Hamad Al Qasimi, both fully restored to display items of Islamic heritage and lifestyle, archaeological finds, weapons, agricultural equipment, in addition to a collection of musical instruments. Inland, in a beautiful setting overlooking the mangroves is Al Ghail Fort. Owned by Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamad Al Qasimi, the house was built between 1898 and 1901, and was designed to preserve the artistic and traditional identity of the Gulf architecture and Islamic pan-Arabian style. Built in a rectangular shape, the house is divided into two sections, eastern and western. The eastern section includes the Access, the Majlis, Morabba'a, the defensive barrage with its shooting outlets (Mazaghil) and the inner Majlis facing the shore. This section, which is separated from the other by a wall in the middle, is designated for receiving men and guests while the western section comprises the living units and serving facilities allotted for women, children and servants. Museum Mission: The Bait Sheikh Saeed Bin Hamed Al Qasimi at Kalba aims to strengthen the link between society and its heritage by preserving and interpreting the history and traditions of the east coast of Sharjah in one of its traditional houses, and to enrich the cultural experience for younger generations.
